Eco credentials glossary

AKA making sense of all those acronyms on our fabrics and haberdashery supplies

Econyl is regenerated nylon fiber made entirely from old, discarded carpets and fishnets, which otherwise would have ended up in landfill. It is a brainchild of Italian nylon manufacturer Aquafil.
EcoVero fabric has been developed by Lenzing, a giant in the textile sustainability word. EcoVero requires significantly less amount of water to produce. Cherry on top, it is made from renewable source, which means if tree was cut down FSC will make sure that the new one is planted.
We are LIVING for ex-designer deadstock fabric. Sourced from textile mills in Italy our deadstock fabrics are left over stock either due to over production or cancelled orders. Well, it is truly their loss and our gain.
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is by far our favourite eco credential. GOTS stands out from all other eco credentials due to is its holistic approach to ALL stages and processes that are involved in creating ethical fabrics.
The focus of this standard is on the end user, in our case, the sewist. When buying Oeko-Tex fabric you can rest assure that your fabrics wont bleed colours, your hands wont turn blue from fabric and of course, you wont be exposed to anything that can mess with your health.
Sorona is a bio based eco friendly substitute for spandex. Dressmaking fabrics made with Sorona have lovely stretch without any elastane and are very soft & supple. In addition, Sorona fabrics are lightweight & breathable, moisture wicking & quick drying, wrinkle & fade resistant.
Tencel fabrics are know for its softness, long lasting comfort and being gentle on the skin. Any fabric manufacturing requires water and solvents. The water used to make Tencel Fabrics is processed, cleaned and re-used, again again and again, like a closed loop.
